This album actually began as a softer, reflective and lighter sounding work. Yet after the two lengthy tracks were completed things felt a bit too sterile and not very emotive for me. I then decided to take a darker and less melodic approach. While many of the same sound sources were carried over into the new mix, these final versions took a completely different direction. Painting over the initial canvas with much darker and distressed strokes, adding dissonance with slightly detuned instruments, it began to represent a sound much inspired by Wolfgang Voigt’s infamous Gas project. The end result is a haunting, ambient dub techno / drone album called Quarters of La Manche.

Even Jane Eyre's cover image taken from the coastal commune of Dieppe, France facing the La Manche sea (English Channel) has been retouched from its initial color tones and exposure to match the new, darker tone of this score.
