Breaking away from standardized, rhythmic pattern structures while embracing texture and grit over melodic flavor, I feel like I've finally been able to create the sound I've been yearning to for many years with this album.

While I've had a modular synthesizer system at my finger tips for a long time, when I first heard the SOMA Laboratory Pulsar-23 I knew this was something different. I knew that this somewhat unassuming, modest-sized yet heavy metal box with protruding spikes and delicate wire clamps would somehow connect with every fiber of my analog synth loving soul.

I actually tried to simulate the Pulsar-23 several times in the past, acquiring some of the more exotic and experimental synth drum modules, while also trying to eke out something more than just drone from the LYRA-8, yet it was but a temporary pacification until I finally broke down for the real deal recently. I can't recall the last time a new piece of kit became so instinctively natural to me from the get-go. It feels like a symbiotic relationship that has generated over many years, which of course could be attributed to my years of experience with modular-based synthesis in general.

The interplay of sound shaping and organic analog effects makes the Pulsar-23 come alive as an electronic beast in a way that I've only fantasized about for my compositions in the past. At times these experimental textures remind me of some of the great recent works of Vladislav Delay. They ignite the curious and passionate child inside of me similar to the first time I discovered modular synthesis and the vibes I feel whenever I watch the documentary, "I Dream of Wires."

I'm pleased to present this first volume of a series called Languishing in Darkness, and hope you will enjoy the sonic explorations with me along this exciting and unpredictable journey.
