This release is a rather new sonic palette for me. With "Mutes" I embarked to tap into psychological conditions of claustrophobia and paranoia by creating sounds and beats as though they were cast through metal pipelines or an air duct structure, only to be heard from outside walls through air vents and subtle vibrations. The music tries to push outward, only to be funneled through loops and turns spiraling into its own sonic captivity.
It was only after creating this album and listening to it that I recognized the minimal techno artists in my past that may have influenced some of these outputs (such as Coppice Halifax, Pole and Vladislav Delay).
Another release of mine closest to this sound would be "Derelict" via my Athena Code project:
The number system for Mutes' track titles are merely the order at which they were created, and the .5 decimal tracks are alternate versions to their master number.
Instruments used on this album were the Formanta Polivoks, Analog Solutions Leipzig-s, Korg EMX-1 and Vermona DRM1 MKIII drum synths, MU modular gear with heavy use of the STG Mankato Filter for percussion shaping and several effects pedals.
