about

Flip flops, plastic buckets and sunscreen. As with most childhood memories sun baked in time’s faded color tones, there is a nostalgic glow to beach vacations of yesteryear. Belleair Beach represents any location within the listener’s mind, an atmospheric travelogue of a world larger and more mysterious than ever to be experienced in a lifetime.

Devoid of contrived, emotive triggers like crashing waves or seagull sounds, this lengthy album focuses on conjuring reflective and warm vibes deep within the mind. Dub techno itself contains an interesting combination of dreamlike, ambient qualities while still containing traditional club elements of rhythm, basslines and melody yet filtered and restrained. A similar filtering and restraint exists in reflections from earlier days.

“Resort Motel” sets the stage as the new, temporary home for the long summer days ahead. The surrounding sand draws boundaries of an imaginary island with not a worry in sight beyond fear of mystical creatures within the deep ocean skyline.

“Shoreline Drive” journeys down the straight roadways running parallel to the shore filled with shell themed trinkets, surf boards, beach chairs and miniature golf parks. As night falls, tanned, barely clothed bodies amass along the sidewalks by liquor stores and bars, all of which are only understood in dim hindsight.

“Resort Motel Vacancy” is an off-seasonal tribute to what becomes almost lifeless from tourist attention, yet still surrounded by the same natural beauty of palm trees, waves and sunsets. A ghostly calmness surrounds as memories of the past summer fade.

“Sunrise Surf” draws on distant silhouettes bobbing slowly with the tide awaiting for their joy ride. The best time of day to surf is generally in the early morning and in the late evening when there is swell in the water. In some ways the surfers are mystical creatures in their own right. These monster-like sculptures towering on a plank seem devoid of any fear. Are these the ones on the sidewalks at night? Where do they come from? Where are they now? Young minds seldom stop asking questions.

Whether you have your own childhood beach memories or not, take a journey to Belleair Beach today with this extensive soundtrack that comes with its own set of warm memories buried in sonic sand.
