About seven years ago the Echospace team offered a raw sounds collection designed for music producers and deejays to make use of for their samplers, digital workstations, and such. While this was a tempting wealth of sonic tools, I resisted taking part in the library for several reasons.

For one, I didn’t want to use the same tools that many other dub techno producers would be jumping on in the next year or so. Another reason was because I felt like it was somehow a cheat, and that using their sounds could somehow stain my own reputation as a musician.

In both cases I was wrong to think in such ways but then that’s where my mindset was in 2015. How someone chooses to use samples is not very different from how someone chooses to use the same synthesizer or digital drum kit and so on. Granted, the degree to which you strip down, alter and dissect provided loops can make a significant difference and I feel finding a balance between completely masking the original samples versus letting some of their original fingerprint show is where the art and respect to the original artist lies.

That said, with many years passed I felt now as a good time to see what could be done with these timeless dub techno elements from the esteemed artists that need no introduction.

Echospaced Parameters offers a Downscopian take on the Echospace universe. In these works you’ll find familiar sounds and vibes from the raw sources, yet arranged together and intertwined with new sounds and even voices from the Downscope realm. The volume count ahead is still unknown, however volume 2 is already in the works with more to come from the series based on inspiration that comes from the dub well.
