A O Sprawling, massive effort of analog play. Too much to absorb in one - or even two, three of four - listenings, going deep into the machine will reveal textures and depths that just may transcend the mental act of listening. Favorite track: Ion XXII.

Tom Rimshot A stellar set, charting some of the deepest sublevels in Downscope's explorations of minimal reductionist techno, textural mining and psychedelic synthesis. Many of these pieces are not quite terrestrial, but not wholly alien - somewhere beautifully in between. Unique, winding and rewarding.

about

To commemorate the one year anniversary of the first Sleeping Ions release this November, Downscope's magnum opus gets CD box treatment. This exclusive set compiles every Ion track from all five volumes, plus contains loads of extras. CD III contains Ion XXVIII; a new, previously unreleased track recorded specially for this compilation using the same gear and configuration to match the tone and feel of the original works. On the same disc is a demo version as well as two extended versions of Ions. The demo track attests to the many different drafts Ion XIX had underwent, this one being the earliest version. Initially some of the Sleeping Ions compositions were restricted by duration limitations due to accompanying cassette editions, hence extended versions of Ions IX and XXI appear on this collection as well. Best of all, CD IV contains pivotal Ion tracks with deionized interpretations specially reshaped for this collection including a hypnotic 28 minute Ion I.

Sleeping Ions is a series that embarks on a new form of minimal techno that would be best described as minimal echo. Though the literal phrase itself suggests the absence of echo the opposite is actually true. Deeply saturated with delay effects, minimal echo accentuates the space between sounds and the successive aftermath of the reverberated echoes and delays that follow. Sleeping Ions was created with analog monophonic synthesizers, sequencers and various effect pedals and effects processors.

"Your sleeping ions releases really have a special feel with them which I can’t compare to anything I heard before... I really like the "softer" tracks like Ion I or III, which really get deep inside, also VIII is very good! well done!" - Stefan Gubatz

"Could have told me it was an Alessandro Cortini piece and I would have believed it." - Matt Greer | Robots Against Children

"This project is really pressing all my buttons. Easily this series is my favorite of all your work." - Brian Grainger | Milieu-Music

"Enjoying these a lot so far. Remind me a little bit of Konrad Becker/Monoton in terms of sound and atmosphere, but further into techno territory. Nice!" - VLK
