Smoke-Wind So atmospheric. I appreciate the subtle movements the soft beat and the background of field recordings it all infuses so well with outdoor listening. Favorite track: Gefrorener Wald IIIB.

about

Gefrorener Wald was crafted completely from a modular synthesizer system. The recordings were then reprocessed in a DAW environment. The five live sessions were then reworked with even darker treatments and heavier processing resulting in the "B" naming system. Four of the tracks (initially beatless) were stripped of their bassline features to absorb a numbing pulse kick. The lengthiest session of all, Gefrorener Wald V, was actually pulse driven from the get go and has received its own smeared tonal brushings for its B version. The final output consists of over four hours of somber, dark ambient tracks for the winter months ahead. The sonic inspiration stems from the classic style of the masterful producer Wolfgang Voigt.

Though the cover photo was taken in France by my trusted photographer and friend Jane Eyre, the mountains of Haut Koenigsbourg hold a German history which sparked the genesis of Gefrorener Wald, literally translated in English as "frozen woods." The beautiful contrast of the fiery coal ground and icy canopy was a significant inspiration to this work.
