about

With this album I continue my journey down the path of dark, drone-like ambiance to explore new ways of driving a score with the muted minimal kick drum. A robust 40-minute movement called "Cannibalism" sets the tone for this foreboding album that will hopefully convey some of the apprehension and intrigue that I experienced in both the sonic atmosphere of my dimly lit studio as well as the topics I researched for the album's theme. "Cannibalism" was created with modular synths and effects units including a newly acquired granular synthesis module (Mutable Instruments Clouds) for droning atmospheric tones.

Some history on Gough's Cave:
The cave contained skeletal remains of both humans and animals, all showing cut-marks and breakage consistent with de-fleshing and eating. Skull fragments, representing from 5 to 7 humans, including a young child of about 3 years and two adolescents. The brain cases appear to have been prepared as drinking cups or containers, a tradition found in other Magdalenian sites across Europe.
