Black Ice itself is not black, but visually transparent, allowing the often black road below to be seen through it. On the surface of lakes, or other bodies of still freshwater, a similar form of ice called congelation ice (also often called black ice) has frozen without many air bubbles trapped inside, making it transparent. Its transparency reveals the color, usually black, of the water beneath it, hence the name. Black ice grows downward from the bottom of the existing ice surface. The growth rate of the ice is proportional to the rate that heat is transferred from the water below the ice surface to the air above the ice surface.

Enjoy the icy textures and cold atmospheres of this brooding album. These recordings sound best when played in a cold, dark canyon or cave with headphones but if you can't arrange that then inside a meat locker or an abandoned cathedral should suffice.
